DATE #1 ► START
[At first, Hinata is pretty ticked off that they have to do this at all. There is some yelling involved at certain stuffed animals, along with some grumbling, and finally accepting that this is their fate and dealing with it.
And besides, it's... not all bad, is it? If it's with Komaeda, then...
He shakes that from his head now, as he's descending down the ladder. He can be flustered when he's not at risk of breaking his neck. As it is, though, he ends up grumbling a bit out loud.]
Who would ever put a morgue at the bottom of a ball pit...? Who would make people have dates here?
[Apparently chinchillas do. Or something.
But eventually, Hinata reaches the bottom and steps away from the ladder with a relieved sigh. He looks back up at where the trapdoor hangs open.
The last thing Hinata had told Komaeda was that he'd meet him here, so he probably doesn't have much longer to wait. Standing here now, though, he can feel some nervousness finally sinking into his shoulders. This is really happening, isn't it?
He never thought his first date would be like this. But... If it's with Komaeda, then...
It's fine, isn't it?
That's the thought that gets a little of the tension to seep out of his shoulders, finally, and Hinata leans back against the wall to wait.]

Hinata.
He walks slowly towards the morgue, where they'd agreed to meet. They hadn't planned a date really, but then, what amount of planning would make a date with him palatable? In a morgue no less. No matter how much Hinata professed to like him, Komaeda feels very certain it's only the scrambled memories speaking. No matter what has colored Hinata's view of him, he's sure it's only a matter of time before the truth wins out.
At least a date will clear any of that up, he thinks, and he and Hinata can finally be on the same page. He doesn't like the uncertainty. Or the confusion. It's much easier to be hated than to wonder.
Reaching the ladder he looks dubious, taking a careful step -
that cracks the weak rung at the top completely in half. Trying to retain some control over the situation, Komaeda grabs hold of the ladder which proceeds to split like a zipper, breaking at every rung, as he falls down to the floor, pieces of broken ladder everywhere when he finally hits bottom.
Komaeda is miraculously uninjured. ]
Ah. Sorry about that.

"For some reason... it scares me to think that I'm having fun without experiencing any bad luck."
"Something horrible might happen while we're exploring... Are you still okay with doing that?"
"But make sure you're extra careful when you go somewhere high up with me."
And then Hinata is flying into motion, something squeezing in his chest.]
Komaeda! [He kicks away some wood and crouches down beside him, hand on his shoulder.] Are you okay? Does anything hurt?

He blinks up at Hinata as he runs over, smiling as a little trickle of blood drips from one of the places on his cheek he removed a splinter. ]
Don't worry, this sort of thing just happens. I'm okay as long as it didn't hit anyone else.

[Hinata looks down. Tight. Something in his chest feels tight.]
Even after something like this... You're still speaking so calmly about it.
[There's anger boiling in him, he realizes. Not directed at Komaeda; not even close. At their lovely hosts, maybe, for putting them in a situation where this could happen. At himself, a lot more likely, for not acknowledging this could happen and trying to prevent it somehow.
Barely lifting his eyes, Hinata reaches out and wipes a bit of blood off of Komaeda's cheek, holding it right in front of his face.]
How can you say that you're okay, when the evidence that you're not is right in front of you?
[His gaze finally lifts, and pain flickers in his eyes as he speaks.]
And worse than that... How can you say I'm not supposed to worry about you?

If you know me as well as you say you do, you know this is normal. Let's just be glad it only happened to me, okay? It'll work itself out in the end.
[ With that he shuffles to stand, careful not to trip over the pieces of ladder. ]

[Sorry Komaeda, you're not getting a choice about that, because Hinata is already reaching out a hand to do so. Slowly and carefully, though, considering... that fall.
He hates that it shakes a little, because he knows Komaeda will be able to tell.]
And this is... something I always knew, but we were always careful. That's why we always went to safe places, you know?
[Hinata laughs lightly, but there's no humor in it.]
I always knew, and yet.... It's different to see it happen for real.
[His voice is laden with guilt as he lets Komaeda go.]
I'm sorry for not being more careful.
